The Q1 2025 Legal LinkedInfluencers report is the biggest and most insightful yet. The rankings, compiled by TBD Marketing, analyse personal LinkedIn engagement across the UK legal sector. This quarter’s edition is hugely comprehensive, with 3,500+ profiles reviewed and a total of 386,612 likes and 74,188 comments across the top 100.
Key findings:
- To make the top 100 this quarter, individuals needed the equivalent of 2,000 likes over the 12-week period
- This quarter’s top 100 individuals come from 61 of the UK’s top 200 law firms, reflecting a wider diversity of voices than ever before.
- But it also shows the growing concentration of influence around strong personal brands, and firm cultures that actively support their people to speak up.
- Eight new people made the top 100, including the highest ranked, Amina Batool, solicitor apprentice at TLT LLP who stormed in at 22nd place overall
- On average, the top 100 has 7330.35 followers
Standout successes
One entrant had a single post that generated a score of 18,568 – which is enough to rank 8th place overall without any other posts. It was about how Marks & Spencer enables inclusion.
Meanwhile, Higgs LLP continues to lead by example, becoming the first ever firm to have six team members ranked in the top 100, including regular chart topper Sophie Wardell who placed second overall.
Michelle Hughes, Head of Digital Marketing at Higgs LLP, said:
“LinkedIn is great for business growth – I’ve connected with so many industry thought leaders because their content is so engaging, and it’s opened up new opportunities for us. We generated enquiries from people we may never have reached without our people promoting their personal brand.”
There are some new entrants in the rankings. Amina Batool, a first-year solicitor apprentice at TLT LLP, currently in her first seat within the Lender Sales team, is one to particularly shout about, proving LinkedInfluence can come at any age or seniority.
The top ten Legal LinkedInfluencers include Patrick McCann former Director of Learning with Linklaters LLP, Jen Shipley, Senior Associate Solicitor at Irwin Mitchell, and a regular leader, Emma Geale, Private Wealth Lawyer at Mills & Reeve LLP, David Standard, Marketing & Business Development at Thompsons Solicitors and a surprising new entrant.
David James Lister accelerates to the top
There are some serious movers this quarter, not least David James Lister, who jumped from 26th to 7th place overall. His work includes being the first solicitor in the UK to conduct a “one couple, one lawyer” divorce, alongside consistent thought leadership on modern practice and representation.
He said:
“Breaking into the top ten was a real surprise – in the best way. To jump from 26th to 7th shows how much momentum I’ve built in just a few months of being consistent. I’ve been focused on sharing content that reflects the things I’m thinking about – modernising the way we practise law, equality, and family life. Growing up on a council estate, I didn’t see many people like me in law – so I use my platform to talk about social mobility, to show that it’s possible, and to champion others coming through.”
TBD recently launched Legal LinkedInfluencer coffees, offering people the chance to hear straight from the trailblazers in the industry, and will be touring the country over the coming months. Sign up to an event near you.
