THE GC REPORT

Q1 2025 RESULTS

Firstly, thanks to The Legal Director who have kindly decided to sponsor this report – the first of its kind, as it’s purely focused on lawyers who work in-house in a corporate counsel role.

“Why not?” asked Sarah Clark, TLD’s inquisitive Chief Revenue Officer.

Why not, indeed.

We’ve spent a lot of time over the past year tracking how lawyers show up on LinkedIn – who’s active, who’s influential, and who’s using the platform to shape conversations in the legal world. We’ve looked at law firm partners, managing partners, barristers – and now, finally, the in-house world gets its turn in the spotlight.

This report focuses on General Counsel, CLOs and Heads of Legal who posted in Q1 2025. We looked at engagement – likes, comments, the signs of actual impact – rather than just follower counts or post volumes.

It’s a methodology we’ve honed across previous rankings, and it gives us what we believe to be a genuinely useful picture of who’s making waves, not just noise.

And let’s be honest – this moment feels overdue. GCs play a central role in shaping how legal services are bought, delivered and valued. They influence innovation. They drive transformation. They connect legal risk with commercial reality. And increasingly, they’re doing it all while building a visible, credible personal brand.

That matters.

It matters because the lines between internal and external audiences are blurring. Because legal leaders – like CFOs, CMOs and CTOs – are expected to be out front, not just behind the curtain. And because influence isn’t just for private practice anymore.

So this is our small way of recognising the people who are leading that change from inside the business.

To those of you featured in the report: congratulations. You’ve not only found your voice – you’ve built a community around it. And to those reading this and thinking “maybe I should be posting more,” perhaps this is your nudge to begin.

As ever, the goal with all our LinkedInfluencer work is simple: to highlight the people changing how legal shows up in the world – one post at a time.

Thanks for reading. We hope you find it useful, thought-provoking – and, who knows, maybe even a little bit inspiring.

The methodology

If it ain’t broke, why fix it? So nothing’s changed on the scoring front.

We find the top voices from GCs and Heads of Legal on LinkedIn and we count all their likes and comments. There’s no value judgment in it.

We add the likes to four times the comments – just like LinkedIn’s algorithm does – to give each post a power score.

We then tot up the total Power Score for the quarter (1 January to 31 March) and rank everyone.

Simple but effective.

Anyone, anywhere, can work out these stats for their own performance if they download their LinkedIn data and email it to us.
